Music and dance of Bali

Presentation

Discover the arts of Bali through a performance bringing gamelan music and dance together.

Giri Kedaton brings together 24 musicians and dancers in a performance where gamelan music and Balinese dance respond to one another. Bronze metallophones, gongs, drums and flutes form an orchestra of rich sounds, accompanying the gestures and stories of dance.

The staging adapts to the venue, with a frontal arrangement on risers or a V-shaped layout bringing the audience closer to the musicians. Where space permits, scenery inspired by Balinese temple gates and traditional parasols completes the performance.

Technical rider

Personnel: 24 musicians and dancers.

Indicative duration: 90 minutes, based on the rider’s sample schedule. The running schedule is to be confirmed with the ensemble for each presentation.

Stage: two layouts are proposed. The frontal arrangement on risers requires a minimum stage depth of 7.6 m (25 ft). The V-shaped layout offers greater flexibility for smaller stages or audiences close to the performers. Riser and curtain requirements are to be agreed with the technical team.

Sound and lighting: the gamelan requires no additional amplification. A microphone is requested for spoken introductions, along with lighting covering the full stage. The instruments favour neutral acoustics without excessive reverberation.

Hospitality and logistics: allow for loading access, parking for a 16-foot box truck, a group dressing room and two separate dressing rooms for dancers. A day for setup, rehearsal and technical adjustments, followed by load-out after the concert, is to be planned with the team.
